Hair Loss Symptoms, Causes and Treatment in India

Androgenetic alopecia is a common form of hair loss in both men and women. In men, this condition is also known as male-pattern baldness.

It’s impossible to count the amount of hair loss on a given day. You may be losing more hair than is normal if you notice a large amount of hair in the drain after washing your hair or clumps of hair in your brush. You might also notice thinning patches of hair or baldness. New hair normally replaces the lost hair, but this doesn’t always happen. Hair loss can develop gradually over years or happen abruptly. Hair loss can be permanent or temporary.
If you notice that you’re losing more hair than usual, you should tell the problem to your doctor.

Signs and symptoms of hair loss may include:

  • Gradual thinning on top of the head.
  • Circular or patchy bald spots.
  • Sudden loosening of hair.
  • Full-body hair loss.
  • Patches of scaling that spread over the scalp.

Causes of hair loss may include:
Hair loss is typically related to one or more of the following factors:

  • Family history (heredity).
  • Hormonal changes and medical conditions
  • Medications and supplements.
  • Radiation therapy to the head.
  • A very stressful event.
  • Certain hairstyles and treatments.

Risk factors of hair loss may include:
A number of factors can increase your risk of hair loss, including:

  • Family history of balding, in either of your parent's families
  • Age
  • Significant weight loss
  • Certain medical conditions, such as diabetes and lupus
  • Stress

If a certain medication is causing the hair loss, your doctor may advise you to stop using it for at least three months. Medications are available to treat pattern (hereditary) baldness. Options include Minoxidil (Rogaine).
